Krisgard

Pitch

Game artwork

Krisgard was a free-to-play MMO monster game on facebook. In a persistent world, players captured and trained monsters so they could pit their team against other players’ teams in real time battles.
To do so, they could explore an open world filled with monsters and other players. In this world they could do quests to win money and fights to train their team and capture new monsters to add to their collection. There were plenty of differents creatures, each with their own strengths and aptitudes.

Tutorial

The five first minutes of the game during which players learned the basics. More advanced notions (such as monster upgrades and evolution, PvP battles, etc.) were introduced later in didactic quests.

Chat and PvP duelling

The ingame chat could be used to talk with players located in the same area, or friends, wherever they were. It was also used to challenge other players to ranked battles or friendly fights to show off their monsters.

Friends and private messaging system

Players could add friends directly ingame. This allowed them to socialize in a massively multiplayer world, without forcing them to give their contact information to anybody by adding strangers on facebook. Players could see their friends’ connexion status at any time (unless they were blocked), chat with them, and challenge them to fights, wherever they were in the game.

Combat assists

During some fights (typically PVE fights), players in difficulty could call for help by clicking a button on the combat interface. Other players in the same area saw an help request feedback pop over the player avatar’s head, and click to help them. First player to help got a reward. In battle, getting helped meant a monster silhouette appeared and dealt damage to the opponent.

Arenas

Up to 6 players to partake in various Player-vs-Player fights, with a variety of configurations and rules. (max level allowed, restricted or mandatory monster species…)
Players could gain Area Points in ranked area battles, and trade them for exclusives powerups. Area battles were the first phase in the implementation of an advanced PvP system that was to include guilds, competitions and tournaments.

Rank progression

To progress in the game world, every player had to gain Ranks, from rank 1 to rank 10. Each rank gave them exclusive rewards ans allowed them to unlock secrets pathways and new areas.
To rank up, a player had to meet two conditions : first, capturing enough differents monster species, then beating a Rank Master in a battle. The Rank Masters were usually available once the player had sufficiently progressed in their current area’s quests and storyline.
